Our Programs

We are a charitable, non-profit parent involvement child care centre which views parents, children and teachers as partners in the early education of young children. The preschool was founded in 1999 by one teacher and a group of five hard working parents. These parents formed our very first Board of Directors for the preschool .

In 2004 we expanded our program to include daycare and out of school care. Together as educators and parents we are proud to create life long ties and a sense of belonging for all families within our community.

What do we mean by Parent Involvement Preschool?
The child care centre was founded and maintained by parents who desire to have an active role in their child’s education. Parents and community members take the responsibility of managing the centre through the Board of Directors. Together with the teachers they provide quality child care and early learning opportunities for children who attend our programs. There are also a variety of voluntary participation options for you to choose from if you would like to contribute to your child’s learning experience.

Our Mission
Cedar Drive Preschool Society is a child care centre that is open to all children 3 to 11 years of age. We believe in the uniqueness of children and strive to teach them socialization, independence and acceptance of one another, no matter what their differences may be. Our educators do this through play experiences and respectful guidance.

Class Size and Age
Our preschool program is designed for 3 to 5 year olds. Each class has a maximum of 20 children enrolled. Please note that children must be 3 years of age by December 31st of their year of entrance to the preschool. Our regular program begins in September and ends in June. We also enrol new students throughout the preschool year. Our daycare program is designed for 3 to 5 year olds. The maximum group size is 16 children.

Our out of school care program is designed for 5-10 year olds. Children are placed in groups according to their grade level and/or age. There is a maximum of 35 children enrolled in the program.

Program Philosophy
At Cedar Drive Preschool Society we provide safe, healthy, age appropriate, educational and fun activities for your children. We believe that children learn most through a child centred, play based program. Our daily routine and environment provides a balance of free-play and structural activities which allows children to use their natural medium of play to explore and learn.

Our curriculum focuses on the whole child. We encourage social, physical, cognitive and creative growth. We offer a variety of activities on a daily basis such as art, science, literature, music, stories and outdoor play. Local outings, field trips and other special events occur regularly through out the year.
We value children’s individuality and respect their differences. We believe that each child deserves love, nurturing, safety and respect in their day to day surroundings.

Fundraising
Cedar Drive Preschool Society is a charitable, non-profit organization. In order for our centre to succeed each year it is imperative that we raise dollars through fundraising. During the year each family participates in an annual mandatory fundraiser. Families also have the opportunity to support the centre through various other voluntary fundraising activities throughout the year.
